GAH! Something everyone can agree on… algae sucks. It looks yucky and some of it even smells yucky. Sooner or later every planted tank enthusiast gets a bit of algae in their tanks, so at least you won’t be alone. However, even though it’s the scourge of the planted aquarium, you don’t have to let it make you walk the plank.

 In the next couple of pages, I’d like to talk about how to prevent algae and how to get rid of it if you already have it.

Before you go on further, I would look at this article and try to identify what kind of algae you have if you are currently having algae problems. Algae is caused by an imbalance of some kind in your tank, but what type of algae you have can sometimes clue you in as to what caused the algae, but more importantly how to get rid of the algae.
